VLC mutes when playback restarted after been paused
The bug: Not in all, but in more than a half of cases of restarting after been paused the playback strats without sound.
Instant solution: The sound returns if under menu Audio / Audio Device I CHANGE the setting (it doesn't matters from which one to the other), but it has no effect on the next pause/restart case. (Now I've returned to version 2.0.7.)
VLC: Newest version, preferences reset done. The phenomenon itself hasn't been experienced with previous versions (I've been using VLC with satisfaction).
My system: HW: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 2 GHz with 3 GB RAM Op. System: Windows XP 2002 SP3 Audio: SoundMAX HD Audio 0
Played media: .mpg (characteristically near to 1 GB as I work with films)

I'm experiencing exactly this problem with slightly different hardware / os:
VLC 2.1.4, Windows 64bit, clean install w/ defaults reset & cache cleared Windows 7 ASUS P6T motherboard, Intel i7-920, 24Gb RAM, no overclock or anything strange SoundMAX HD Audio, as above. The drivers are current from Microsoft, if old: SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio, Provider: Analog Devices, Date: 8/19/2008, Version: 6.10.2.6530, Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher.
The length of time that the video is paused seems to affect the likelihood of audio when playing again. The longer the pause, the lower the odds that audio will be heard.
Sometimes changing the volume or rewinding / fast forwarding slightly fixes the issue but usually I have to stop the video and restart it. Seeking isn't a problem, only pausing.
VLC 2.0.5 does not have this problem (but does have other issues with very annoying audio breaks every 3 seconds or so). I'm going test 2.0.7 in hope of finding a working version.
