ActiveX plugin for VB not working

Since VLC 2.0.0 the "VLC ActiveX Plugin and IE Web Plugin v2" doesn't work anymore in Visual Basic. I use Visual Basic 2010 Express on Windows 7 32Bit (clean install). When I add the plugin to the Toolbox and then drag it to the form I get the error message: "Could not create the component AxHost. System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8002801D): library not registered..." (translated from german)

Programs that have been compiled with VLC 1.1.5 using the plugin crash with VLC >= 2.0.0

I have this issue too. Clean install of Win 7 32bit, clean install of VLC and VB Express too. I can add the VLC plugins to the toolbox, but when I drag them in, I get the same error message, though in English. I've attached it. I can reproduce the issue on a completely new project. I'd written a program on a Win8.1 PC and was trying to run it, with difficulties on a Win 7 PC. I ended up installing VB2010 on the Win7 PC and transferring the whole project. Interestingly, the program runs fine, with the VLC plugins, except for "playlist.clear()" throws an error. Could be related.

PLease share an example project.

Have you tried to re-register axvlc.dll? VLC 2.2.2 (nightly) works fine for me.

Have you set the correct target platform? "x86" should be the correct value.
