Resizing screen window causes video to go blank

    When I'm in the middle of playing a video file (.avi), if I go to manually resize the screen by pulling at the corner of VLC, the video feed will stop. Audio will continue normally, so it's not a crash. I tried closing out of the program and restarting it, but video does not resume, even at the beginning of the file. I tried loading a different file, but the problem persists. I have not altered any settings in VLC, so they're all already set to standard. If I reboot my computer completely, the problem is resolved until the next time I try to resize the VLC window.

      Just checked it on the original file again. 1:1 aspect doesn't work, same with 2:1. If I go to Video - Zoom, I can get the video to play with 1:2 and 1:4, but resizing it from there gives the same problem, as well as double-clicking to go fullscreen.

      System specs would probably help! Sorry about that. HP 625 Laptop CPU: AMD Athlon II 2.6GHz Dual-Core Memory: 3GB Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 OS: Linux Ubuntu 12.04.2

      Unfortunately, without logs or any concrete technical info, there is not much we can do...

      • Does the problem occur also if embedded video is disabled (VLC --no-embedded-video)?
      • With which video output does the problem occur? OpenGL? XVideo? X11? ...
      • Please provide the verbose logs (vlc -vv).

      I'm not really sure how to disable embedded video, but I never turned it on in the first place. Video output is set for Default, like I said initially, I didn't change any of the settings or preferences, so they're all default settings on VLC. The verbose logs are:

      I apologize if I miss stuff on this. I'm still pretty new to Linux, and kind of just finding my way around in the dark.

      If the problem persists across VLC runs, but not across reboots, it is almost certainly a (display) driver problem.
