64-bit VLC does not correctly output audio on my Mac Pro (Tower)
Last Friday I received a new Mac Pro with 2x2.4 Ghz 6-Core Intel Xeon, running under Mac OS X 10.8.2. I proceeded to install on it the latest VLC mediaplayer (Version 2.0.5 Twoflower (Intel 32bit)). It sounds beautifully, right now after I constrained it to open in 32-bit mode. But before that, while it opened unconstrained in whatever mode it preferred, I had twice the experience of a dreadful screeching sound on my PS 1000 Grado headphones (connected to NuForce DAC-100). The first time, I uninstalled the VLC application and downloaded another copy; the second time, a short while ago today, I went to the application's info window and ticked the "Open in 32-bit mode" square. This solved the problem and the solution is o.k. with me. But I thought you would wish to know about this apparent bug. (NOTE: Last night, before introducing the constraint, I had no problem in viewing and hearing a DVD of Lully's Cadmos and Hermione using the VLC mediaplayer).
