VLC playback choppy for high bit rate h.264
I'm using VLC 2.1.0-git on a 3Ghz Core2Duo.
A while ago I did an informal audit of all the available video playback apps on Mac OS X. VLC performed best with most formats, but was the absolute WORST at a high bitrate h.264 (it was 25Mb/sec IIRC). Plex (with hw acceleration) was the ONLY app to play the clip smoothly.
While the inclusion of hardware acceleration for h.264 playback seems to have improved h.264 playback, it still terrible for high bit rate clips like this one (which, again, plays perfectly with Plex):

Does anyone know why this is the case? I'd like to get rid of Plex, but VLC chokes on high bit rate videos.
