VLC freezes when changing volume

During playback of any file changes of the volume leads to a freeze VLC for a few seconds.

Got the same problem. Alsa and ArchLinux x86-64. These is at least .5 second delay when changing volume.

Delay when changing the volume is unfortunately normal if you use ALSA. Freeze is not.

Same Problem with VLC 2.0.2 in Arch Linux x86_32. Solved it by installing pulseaudio package.
