libass fails building on Lion (missing pkg-config)
checking for FREETYPE... configure: error: in `/Users/dmp/buildd/webitup/build/technicolor-yawn/0.1-alpha/tmp/Darwin/vlc-1.2/contrib/native/libass':
configure: error: The pkg-config script could not be found or is too old. Make sure it
is in your PATH or set the PKG_CONFIG environment variable to the full
path to pkg-config.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables FREETYPE_CFLAGS
and FREETYPE_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.
To get pkg-config, see <http://pkg-config.freedesktop.org/>.
See `config.log' for more details.
make: *** [.ass] Error 1
Building pkgconfig by hand fixed the problem.
Probably installing it with brew would do it as well.
Now, IIRC pkgconfig was provided in vlc 1.1. I'm not sure why you guys removed it (if I'm correct). Note that NOT having pkg-config also causes a number of warnings when using make or make list.
Anyhow, I never managed to build pkg-config 0.26 (due to the glib 2 circular dep) - so, I sticked with 0.25 (and so did homebrew and macports).
Would you consider re-adding pkg-config to the deps? Or should I update the wiki to mention the fact it is requires?
