Description (last modified by courmisch)

I am using VLC player ver 1.1.9 for windows XP.

When I use a mouse to click on the "Play/Pause?" button, it works fine (i.e. music can be "played" or "paused"). However, it does NOT pause if I use the following input devices:

  1. Multimedia keyboard which has a "Play/Pause?" key

When I press the “Play/Pause?” key, the music/video does not pause. Howver, other multimedia keys on the keyboard work well e.g. “stop”, “next media”, “previous media”.

2.PC remote controller
When I press the “Play/Pause?” button, the music/video does not pause. However, other buttons on the remote controller work well e.g. “stop”, “next media”, “previous media”. Note: I configure the HotKeys? for my remote controller by: “Tools” menu > “Preferences” > “Hotkeys”

The older version of VLC player supported this feature. If I recall correctly, it was ver 1.0.5. This features is very useful for Home Theatre PC. It would be nice, if you could fix the bug as soon as possible.
I love VLC player! Thank you and the team all the GREAT work done all this while. :)

I cannot investigage your problem since I do not have a multimedia keyboard.

Patch welcome.

A little suggestion to fix the error:
Is is possible to compare the source code (program) of ver 1.0.5 with ver 1.1.9? Perhaps, by comparing the source code, it can help to find the error. Thanks.

When VLC is in focus, play/pause button works. Just tested.

Replying to jb:

Thanks. Refer to the picture here: [http:/www.fileden.com/files/2008/12/11/2219167/for_email/VLC-player-play-pause-problem-snapshot-v2.JPG ]
While the VLC player was playing the video, I made VLC in focus by clicking on the gray rectangle interface at the bottom. The play/pause button works using my remote controller.

However, the "stop", "next media" buttons (and others) works even though I do NOT make VLC player in focus.

What is the rationale? Could the VLC team makes the "Play/Pause?" button works even if VLC player is NOT in focus? It is more user friendly this way.

Thanks a lot to you and the team for the precious time spent in this matter, and keep improving the VLC :)

As expected, VLC does not react to media keys when not in front.
