Unrecoverable audio drift with ALSA 1.0.11

There seems to be a bug in the ALSA audio output plugin that causes severe stuttering starting with ALSA version 1.0.10.

We indeed very often get some "audio output is starving" messages.

This bug has disappeared as suddendly as it came, several weeks ago. Probably due to a bad Alsa upgrade (confirmed by courmisch)

I still have warnings about buffer underruns, but they don't seem to alter the performance. mpg321 seemingly has the same problem with recent ALSA versions on my system.

I still have problems, and it is annoying.

Using Alsa 1.0.11

This is definitely an issue with the ALSA plugin. OSS works perfectly fine.

As such, I pretty much doubt this a problem with my driver, since I'm using OSS emulation on top of the same ALSA driver.

Hi, see ticket https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/894 for reason why reopening this ticket. Something in the new calculations seems te mess up the DTS stream. Reverting changes needed for this problem restored the DTS stream. Could someone explain the 'solution' for this problem?
