Audio skips at beginning of playback -- pulseaudio/jack
I am observing exactly the behaviour described in https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?p=449456 on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with VLC 3.0.8, for which there seems to be no solution.
The work around to use the JACK VLC plugin and directly connect to JACK (instead of using the PulseAudio JACK Sink) does allow stutter-free playback, but it is inconvenient because to change the output module, one needs to access the preference window.
An additional information to the forum entry, and the reason that I created this bug report, is that I get fully stutter-free playback to the PulseAudio JACK Sink using for example the 'Parole Media Player'.
A suspicion is that the stutter might be related to starting playback too early, before the audio stream is fully created, and that 'Parole' handles this differently. Maybe there is feedback available from Pulse that the stream is ready?
It is rather disturbing to the level that I cannot use vlc under those conditions, therefore I set a higher severity.
The stutter is not occurring when using my other sound card as PulseAudio output (thus seems to be specific to the PulseAudio JACK Sink). Contrary to the forum report, the stutter does not occur on every playback, but maybe in one third of all attempts.
