SMB Access module failures

    Playback from CIFS NAS interrupted few times per each song. I'm still using 2.2.8 because of this. Verified by two users per details and logfiles posted here:

      Log shows HTTP access with the server not responding. Nothing to do with SMB/CIFS here.

      The background parsing of metadata is what causes the SMB/CIFS failures. I've turned off http fetching and now demonstrate that just the ART and META fetcher module background activity is enough to trigger the bug three times in one song. I reliably replicate the problem by playing a NAS hosted directory containing 500 or more songs type MP3 MP4 M4A WMA and a few TXT PNG JPG files. Here is the log capture from a single song being interrupted 3 times:

      Re-opened with clarifications and additional log-file. Note that problem goes away after ALL metadata background parsing completes but that can take a very long time if HTTP is enabled and directory contains hundreds of songs. Note also that I'm enqueuing songs via UNC path, not by mapped drive.

      The requested VLC64_2.2.8_64.log logfile is attached. Surprisingly the problem is demonstrated here in the same way BUT each audible outage is extremely short, only a fraction of a second as compared to 10 seconds or more in the VLC 3.x release series. I did not notice this before because in the past I had buffering set to 1000ms and this completely hid the defect. The attached logfile was generated using VLC 2.2.8 default settings, and all the interruptions are in the 1st song played. As before, the interruptions only occur while metadata is being parsed for the 500 or so files. ...hope this helps.
