[Linux Mint 19] Audio dropouts in FLAC playback
Steps to Reproduce
- Install VLC 3.0.3 from Snap or official repo on Linux Mint 19
- Open FLAC file from here: https://streams.videolan.org/issues/21102/audio-dropout-jeffbeck.flac
- Skip to 02:18
- Observe audio dropout
Current Result: In certain FLAC files, VLC will "stumble" at certain points and there will be an audible audio dropout or skip. The FLAC files are fine and no other software does this.
Expected Result: FLAC files should play without issues.
Repro Rate: 100%
Workaround: Open FLAC file in an editing/converting app (e.g. Audacity, Sound Converter) and re-export. The new file will play without issues.
Notes:
- Attached file is a recording of the dropout from my PC's playback monitor.
- Issue observed on my laptop and desktop PCs
- Issue only observed with files from my multichannel collection. I barely have stereo FLACs and don't play them with VLC.
- Issue first observed on July 12, 2018.
- Issue did not occur during my previous 8 years of daily multichannel FLAC listening on Ubuntu or Mint.
- Issue does not occur with other file formats.
- Issue does not occur in SMPlayer, Parole, Audacious, Mint's Media Player or mpv Media Player
