Blu-ray playback general missing (key+mouse) control input

Blu-ray playback is missing a few keys: Most importantly VK_POPUP_MENU but also the numeric keys VK_0, VK_1, VK_2, VK_3, VK_4, VK_5, VK_6, VK_7, VK_8, VK_09

Note: The VK_POPUP_MENU button is not the same as the TOP MENU button. Blu-ray has two menu buttons, one called TOP MENU and one called POPUP MENU. The first one ("TOP MENU") does the same as POPUP/TITLE MENU does on a DVD remote control. Basically it restarts the disc, bringing you back to language selection menu. DVD only has this menu button, and it is equivalent to the TOP MENU button on a Blu-ray remote. In VLC this functionality is mapped to the MENU button, and that's fine. But Blu-ray also has VK_POPUP_MENU which has a different functionality. This button typically brings up a menu while the movie is playing.

It would be great if VK_POPUP_MENU could be mapped to the space key.

And lastly, mouse clicks would also be nice to have. Blu-ray does support mouse clicks, although not many movies has implemented this, it is a Blu-ray standard.

(The reason for this feature request is the forthcoming release of my Blu-ray project 8bitmemoirs.com in which I refer a lot to VLC for playback on Windows/Linux/Max).

Err, the popup menu key, not the space bar, should be mapped to the popup menu key...

Adding navigation events for digit and popup keys wouldn't be difficult as such. It's similar to what we already do for arrow and menu keys.

Exactly Milestone. This request should be very easy to implement.

And at least the POPUP MENU button should really be there. It is as much a vital part of Blu-ray navigation as the ENTER button is. Digit keys makes sense too though, since all remote controls also has these.

Mouse support makes sense too, since one is obviously using a computer when using VLC. Blu-ray authors are encouraged to implement mouse-support. Not sure how many actually does it, but my project does support it.

Er.... making sure there's no misunderstanding here:

Currently the VLC GUI button "MENU" maps to the TOP MENU button on a Blu-ray player remote control. Take caution: This button is NOT the same as the POPUP MENU button. So if you decide to map POPUP MENU to the VLC GUI "MENU" button, then you will effectively delete the TOP MENU button.

This is why I suggest leaving the TOP MENU mapped to the VLC GUI "MENU" button as it currently is, and just add POPUP MENU for the spacebar.

The ENTER button and the POPUP MENU button are always closely linked together on any Blu-ray remote control. On a PlayStation 3 gamepad for example (when using the gamepad as a Blu-ray movie remote control), The CROSS button is ENTER and the SQUARE button is POPUP MENU. Therefor it makes sense to use spacebar as POPUP MENU for VLC when ENTER is ENTER. Alternatively POPUP MENU should be mapped to some other key on the keyboard, like maybe HOME or BACKSPACE.

Sorry but space is reserved for pause by default. And that is the kind of very well and long since established default that is not going to change.

I am writing a usage guide on how to navigate my project using VLC. Have already written one for standard Blu-ray players and PlayStation, and will write one for Xbox One too.

So in regards to the VLC usage guide, I have to ask:

Can I assume that the HOME button will be added as a POPUP MENU button?

And can I assume that the key-numbers will be added too?

Doesn't necessarily have to be right away. Just some time in the future, so I'm not telling lies in my usage guide.

Mouse move/clicks are forwarded to libbluray correctly, afaik.
