Apple TV VLC app has problems with (DVD) ISO file playback
I am playing a DVD ISO on an Apple TV Gen 4. The ISO file resides on my MacBook Pro so it's accessed as a shared file (it is not mounted). VLC plays the file but there are these issues:
- After the file is loaded, VLC starts playing. I don't know how it determines which title to play. Sometimes it is title 1 and sometimes it is disabled (dark screen). Then I have to go through each title until I find one that works (with video AND audio). There is no DVD menu so you don't know what title is what. I suspect this has to do with audio selection more than video selection. Some DVDs have multiple shows (episodes). It is difficult finding the one you want without a menu.
- While playing, touching the touch-sensitive pad on the Apple TV remote displays the horizontal timeline at the bottom of the TV, the left side shows elapsed time and the right shows remaining time. These values are wildly wrong.
- Scrolling left or right through the timeline takes you to the wrong place in the movie. Moving to the right sometimes backs you up and vice versa. That makes it difficult to find a specific place in the movie.
- There is no way to select a specific chapter like you can with a DVD player.
- DVD ISO files usually have many titles. Some of these titles don't have audio and I think maybe they should.
- Needs better buffering. Movie stops playing while more data is downloaded. Note: I think this problem may have already been reported.
