H.264 >720p: blocky / pixelated playback in Ubuntu 16.04 & VLC 2.2.2
Steps to Reproduce:
- Install Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 (64-bit)
- Install NVidia driver 361.42
- Download Sintel movie from http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/graphics/blender/demo/movies/Sintel.2010.1080p.mkv (this is legal)
- Attempt playback
Current behaviour: Hi-res (above 720p) MKV files encoded with H.264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1) play back in a choppy and pixelated manner.
Expected behaviour: Hi-res (above 720p) MKV files encoded with H.264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1) should play back correctly.

Hardware used: Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K, 4 Core, 4 GHz, LGA 1150 Socket Video Card: GIGABYTE GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD GeForce GTX 970 Sound: Yamaha RX-V661 7.1-channel home theater receiver connected to NVidia card via HDMI Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB (2x8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866
Software used: Ubuntu GNOME 16.04, 64-bit VLC Media Player 2.2.2 NVidia drivers 361.42
Notes: Repro rate: 5/5 (attempted with 5 different hi-res video files using the same codec) This issue does not occur in other players, e.g., Parole or Totem. This issue does not occur using other codecs (e.g., MPEG-4, Flash Video). This issue does not occur with lower-res H.264 videos (e.g., 576x320, 640x480). My e-mail address: me@meetmatteastwood.com
