Audio playback of WAV files via playlist not gapless (not continuous)

Playback of Wave file recording of live CD - divided into tracks - is not continuous. There is an audible gap when the list advances to the next track. (On the CD the tracks play back continuously during applause.)

Could not find this reported as open issue. Possibly enhancement? (Problem not unique to VLC. I understand the IPOD also had this issue...)

VLC does not support gapless playback, sorry.

This is a long-standing feature request and since this is quite hard to implement in VLC's existing architecture, no volunteer stepped up to implement this so far.
