unencrypted, region-free DVD fails to play, works from hard disk
I am having trouble with this DVD:
http://www.homespuntapes.com/Instructors/john-doyle/irish-rhythm-guitar
I get as far as the DVD menu, but when I select a chapter, video just stops. All the individual .VOB files can be played, so I suspected an issue with the .IFO. However, after a cp -a to my hard disk, VLC plays the DVD folder from the hard disk just fine with navigation and all.
I have tried with VLC on Arch Linux, Debian GNU/Linux unstable, Windows 7 Pro. It is the same on all platforms. At the same time, the DVD does play in Windows Media Player.
I have also tried the "no DVD menu" option on the DVD medium, in which case I see the following error: [00007f57b8000e78] dvdread demux error: i_pack_len >= 1024 (268542972). This shouldn't happen!
Also other free media players fail, including Totem and MPlayer.
I haven't seen a lot of console output from VLC. Please advise how to generate the output necessary for further investigating this.
