VLC stops playing some .webm files at 2-3 seconds before actual end of file

Version used: VLC 2.1.3 OS: Windows 8.1 Hardware: Intel Core i7-2600 @ 3.40 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570.

1. To reproduce, play attached .webm file in VLC media player. Actual duration of this file is 14 seconds, however VLC player will stop playing it at about 11-12 second.

2. VLC warnings when playing problem file: mkv warning: MKV/Ebml Parser: m_el[mi_level] == NULL mkv warning: MKV/Ebml Parser: Up cannot escape itself direct3d warning: trying surface pixel format: YV12 mkv warning: find KaxCues FIXME mkv warning: cannot get block EOF?

3. It may look like file itself is corrupted, however Windows Media Player and Google Chrome (web browser) can play this file correctly till the end.

Try 2.2.0 Nightly build

It's true that sample file looks like it goes to 14s on nightly 2.2.0 build. However, it produces the same vlc warnings and problem is not really solved in this version. I've attached another sample where it is clear that last 2.2.0 nightly build has the same problem. This sample length is 6s 735ms. If you will play it with VLC 2.2.0, you will notice that the last digit in a sequence of digits in this video is "9". However, if you will play it with another player (I tried Windows Media Player and Google Chrome browser), it will play it to the end and you will notice that the last digit is "0".

P.S: I didn't mention that I use x64 version of VLC. I tried to test with last nightly x86 build, but seems windows installer is broken in that build.

How is the installer broken?

So it might cut the last frames or 2. Not 2-3 sec.

When I told about 2-3 seconds, that was in 2.1.3 version, not 2.2.0. I tried several samples with 2.2.0 (which I cannot reveal to public), and in some of them it cuts noticeable amount (up to 2 seconds). So I doubt it's always just last 1-2 frames.

32-bit installer fails with the following message: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor". Message appears after you agree with license and click "Install" button. Installer then shows "computing space requirements" message and then this error. Windows 8.1 x64.

Video length is 13 seconds. However, VLC starts playing it from 9 second, plays for just about 1-2 seconds, then interrupts with the same warnings as above. Playback almost doesn't work for this file. So that is definetly not cutting frame or 2 - almost whole file doesn't work in VLC. Again, works perfectly fine in other players. Tested with latest nightly x64 build on Windows 8.1.

Any news on this issue? If it cannot be fixed in observable future, any clues about what causes it?

VLC plays the file perfectly, until last frame.

The time is not updated gradually, that's all, because the clusters are too big.

I tried with 2.2.0-rc2 and it plays fine. The progress granularity is better than with 2.1.5 and it goes up to the "0" in sample2.webm.

Same result in the 3.0.0 master.

I'll have a look at the log warnings.

The logs are fine, just alarming for no reason. The file is correct and handled properly.
