VLC crashes playing video and switching to fullscreen game

I've been trying to let VLC play video clips of music files in the background (minimized to the Windows task bar) while playing Battlefield 4 on the PC.

If BF4 is running, switching from VLC to the game forces VLC to crash.

Also, I can't upload my crash reports as "the FTP server could not be connected."

This is an issue with your graphics card driver, which can't handle multiple Direct3D contexts at the same time.

Consider closing VLC prior to launching your game or switch the video output module from "Default" to "DirectX" or "OpenGL".
