VLC for android audio crackling on KitKat using OpenSL ES
While using VLC on android on Nexus 7 tablet under android 4.4 (kitkat), every movie format has audio sort of crackling or even often disapearing one seconds while streamed over http and even also read locally from the device's storage. Tested VLC version is bf90b31 from 2013-11-27. The same VLC version works like a charm on Android 4.2.2 and 4.3.
Here is a short log sample on Android 4.4 while crackling (appears very often per minute): W/VLC (24086): main audio output: playback way too late (184686): flushing buffers W/VLC (24086): main audio output: playback way too early (-617041): playing silence D/VLC (24086): main audio output: inserting 29617 zeroes W/VLC (24086): main audio output: playback too late (62095): up-sampling D/VLC (24086): main audio output: resampling stopped (drift: 30075 us) W/VLC (24086): main audio output: playback too late (63648): up-sampling W/VLC (24086): main audio output: timing screwed (drift: 130492 us): stopping resampling W/VLC (24086): main audio output: playback too late (131437): up-sampling W/VLC (24086): main audio output: playback way too late (190853): flushing buffers W/VLC (24086): main audio output: playback way too early (-611450): playing silence D/VLC (24086): main audio output: inserting 29349 zeroes W/VLC (24086): main audio output: playback too late (71281): up-sampling D/VLC (24086): main audio output: resampling stopped (drift: 32884 us) W/VLC (24086): main audio output: playback too late (72753): up-sampling D/VLC (24086): main audio output: resampling stopped (drift: 33296 us) W/VLC (24086): main audio output: playback too late (71401): up-sampling
