#12023 VLC causes Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library "to terminate in an unusual way". reopened defect normal Unknown
Description

Please see http://blogabissl.blogspot.com/2014/08/vlc-looses-game-in-seconds.html. I have no idea if the video file has a glitch – as Media Player Classic crashes in the same place – or they both use the same library call. In any case calls to the runtime library should be better checked and diagnostics given in case of "termination". Fritz@…

#12050 "Convert" might create bogus MP3 files new defect normal Unknown
Description

I converted several MP4/FLV videos using the "Open Multiple Files..." -> "Convert" feature by using the shipped "Audio - MP3" profile. After converting a few files I recognized the bitrate was just 128 kb/s, so I changed to to 160 kb/s.

Later on when I tried to play those 160 kb/s files on my car radio they didn't work. It seemed to be able to open them, but just didn't play them. The time was stuck at 0:00. The 128 kb/s ones are fine.

I also tested this with some other hardware devices e.g. portable MP3 player and they all showed the same behavior.

VLC/MPC-HC (with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack installed) are able to play those files without any problems.

I checked the files using the "Checkmate MP3 Checker" version 0.19 and it shows the 128 kb/s ones as OK adn the 160 kb/s ones as broken. The data it shows for the files seems to be okay, but what stand out is, that the 160 kb/s ones are VBR with varying bitranges and have a random layer version (ranges from 1 to 3) and the 128 kb/s ones all have the proper layer version 3 and are CBR. It seems like is something is wrong with the header of those 160 kb/s files.

The command-line version of the checker shows better information:

working

version MPEG v1.0 layer 3 bitrate 128000 bps samplerate 44100 Hz frames 70183 time 30:33.351 unidentified 0 b (0%) stereo yes size 28646 KiB ID3V1 no ID3V2 no last frame

offset 29333211 b (0x1bf96db) length 418

errors none result Ok

broken

version MPEG v1.0 layer 2 average bitrate 157412 bps (VBR) samplerate 44100 Hz frames 28086 time 12:13.675 unidentified 4478562 b (20%) errors unidentified bytes

inconsistent frame headers invalid header values CRC error

result Bad

In the verbose mode it also shows lots of "unknown bitrate" and "layer differs from previous frame" message.

Interestingly there isn't even a CBR/VBR selection in the conversion dialog, so I would assume it should always be CBR.

I also tried the tool "MP3 Diags" version 1.2.01, which goes into even more detail. I attached the information it shows - unfortunately as an image since I have having trouble to copy and paste the information out of the application.

#12062 Stream order swapped when converting FLV -> MP4 new defect normal Stream output: Muxers
Description

It looks like stream order can be rearranged when converting between container formats.

I used VLC to convert a .flv Flash video to .m4v MP4, keeping the original codec streams, and in the process it switched the stream order. The resulting file plays correctly in VLC, but not in iTunes and Quicktime: there is no audio output, only video, in the Apple programs.

I used VLC 2.1.5 x64 on OS X 10.9.4.

I did the conversion by doing a File -> Convert / Stream, and using a custom profile named "MP4 - No transcode" with these settings: Encapsulation: MP4/MOV Video codec: [X] Video, [X] Keep original video track Audio codec: [X] Audio, [X] Keep original audio track

The input file was an FLV file downloaded from the KCRW website. You can reproduce it by taking the file at this URL, renaming it to have a .flv extension, and using that as the input. cf.c.ooyala.com/dkdjN1ZDqzW12tw7ET4FT7tiG-4P9_qa/RxMStukup89p4FAO1Ahq8DNPeARvoo8fyPMGaAlJ4H6nglO48TZn-p4cVGGsAraZ/video_1800_640Seg1-Frag17

The input file had the following streams: Stream 0: H.264 video Stream 1: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)

The output file kept the same codecs, but the streams were swapped: Stream 0: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a) Stream 1: H.264 video

The converter insisted I use the .m4v file extension instead of .mp4, so I used that initially. I also switched it to .mp4 to see if that would get Quicktime to notice the audio, but that had no effect.

After this didn't work, I did the same conversion using ffmpeg. It kept the streams in the same order, and both VLC and iTunes/Quicktime were able to play the resulting output file. So it looks like Apple's playback stuff has trouble with this stream arrangement.

I would expect that the conversion utility would keep the stream order the same when re-encapsulating a file. This seems like a bug in VLC's conversion behavior.

(I originally posted this to the forums here - https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=121126 - but didn't get a response, so I think this is an actual bug and am posting it to the bug tracker now.)

#12088 VLC transcoder component (Convert / Save feature) cannot overwrite existing files new defect normal Stream output
Description

I discovered this when attempted to rip a CD audio to MP3. I created corresponding blank MP3 files in advance just to ease my task. Without knowing of this bug I actually hardened it. Every time when I attempted to rip a track the overwrite notification appeared correctly, but after clicking Yes nothing concrete happened. The task was successfully added to the playlist, but it seams it didn't start. As soon as I delete the blank file and try again it works. Tested: 2.1.3, 2.1.5, latest nightly build. Got to reproduce on all. This issue behavior it's not affected by preferences and cache.

#12089 Altering a profile of VLC transcoder component (Convert / Save feature) that has no encapsulation set breaks it by enforcing the MPEG-TS encapsulation new defect normal Unknown
Description

I discovered this when I attempted to alter the Audio - MP3 profile; I wanted to change the audio sample rate to 22050. After saving the changes VLC tries to produce .TS files instead of MP3. This seams to be caused by the missing No encapsulation or None radio button in Encapsulation page which should be checked by default when it's the case. By saving that profile change I unintentionally enforced the MPEG-TS encapsulation to it, that's because it's the first option in encapsulation page. And because I am not aware of any way to reset transcoder profiles to factory state (resetting preferences and cache doesn't help) the only way to reset the profiles was to reinstall VLC.

#12095 subtitles not auto-loading when playing archive files with movie in them new defect high Subtitles
Description

Just as the title says, I've recently discovered I can play rar archives without unpacking first. However, the subtitle in the folder, even if it matches the movie name or the archive name, does not get loaded automagically with the playback, and that's too bad for playlists.

I'm not talking about archived subtitles, just subtitles in the archived movie's folder.

It should load automagically, just like with regular files.

#12105 tvrage.lua's network discovery cannot be prohibited via settings new defect normal LUA scripts
Description

tvrage.lua (lib/vlc/lua/meta/fetcher/tvrage.luac in my distro) dares using the network without my allowance. This should be configurable, all network interactions (e.g. for fetching metas etc.) have to be tunable by the end-user, and their default should be all-off.

This is VLC 2.1.5 on Linux 3.16.1-1-ARCH x86_64 (installed via arch's pacman). Hardware doesn't matter I suppose.

I couldn't find any preference retaining to toggling tvrage's activity, inspection of tvrage.lua source does not make me suspect it gives any damn about user preferences.

#12128 Cannot isolate left/right speaker audio on VCDs new defect low Core: Audio output
Description

Your operating system and the version: Linux Mint 17 MATE (Ubuntu Trusty variant)

Your VLC media player version: 3.0.0 Vetinari

The hardware you use:

Processor is Intel Pentium 4, 2.8GHz RAM is 2GB Audio and video are in the Intel chipset

Can you always reproduce the problem in a certain way?

  • load VLC with Infernal Affairs VCD with Mandarin and Cantonese audio
  • wait until the title where the movie starts
  • right click on menu
  • go from audio all the way to stereo menu
  • click on either left or right speaker

Then as you can see, I tried to isolate the Cantonese (left speaker audio) from the Mandarin (right speaker audio). VLC registers the change, but does nothing; the speakers were still playing the two languages.

The type of movie you were playing: Infernal Affairs VCD copy And whether or not the issue is present on other types of movies: yes, movies on other formats like RMVB also suffer the same problem.

Thank you.

#12249 funny file association new defect low Subtitles

  2. place any .srt(subtitle file) in the same directory VLC is automatically picking up

#12252 Subtitle syncronization can't be adjusted on AVI files new defect normal Subtitles
Description

On VLC v2.1.5, on Win7x64, subtitle synchronization (advancing/delaying) doesn't work at all when using subtitle files (.srt) while playing an AVI. This is true using either keyboard shortcuts (h, g) or the menus (Tools | Track Syncronizaiton | Subtitles/Video? | Subtitle Track Synchronization).

I didn't find any similar bug reported in the tracker, but in the forums, people have reported this problem for years ( https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=91682 ). The problem is easily duplicated on my laptop and desktop (same OS and VLC version, but CPU is i5 vs. AMD C-series).

If you need the .avi and an .srt file which caused the problem, please contact me.

#12343 Stream/Convert wizard: Logo sub filter as video filter in transcoding profile and missing Marquee new defect normal Interface: Qt
Description

From https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=121784#p410349

Media > Stream... > ... ... > Create/Edit transcoding profile: Video codec tab > Filters tab: [v] Logo video filter

Then in final transcoding chain "vfilter=logo" appears instead of correct "sfilter=logo". Probably it is the reason why the filter does not work through Convert/Save... wizard, too.

Another sub filter, Marquee is not in the list of available filters. Then probably soverlay option is necessary.

#12364 VLC Player has minor bug using with Sysprep's CopyProfile setting new defect normal Unknown
Description

Using Sysprep's CopyProfile? in an Unattend.xml file will result in a minor error.

The problem is that Sysprep's CopyProfile? copies the VLC settings file, which contains a hard-coded path to the first user's roaming profile.

For reference, I am using Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 8.1 Enterprise with the latest version of VLC media player.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.
  2. When the setup process prompts for the username, enter Sysprep's Audit Mode by pressing SHIFT+CTRL+F3. You will be logged-in with the built-in Administrator account at this point.
  3. Install VLC media player.
  4. Run VLC media player.
  5. Close VLC media player.
  6. Create a Sysprep unattend.xml file that has the CopyProfile? setting set to true.
  7. Use Sysprep to generalize the image using the unattend.xml file created in the previous step.
  8. Once the machine restarts, let it go through the normal Windows setup process.
  9. Login to Windows using a user account other than the built-in Administrator account. The account can have either User or Administrator privileges.
  10. Open VLC media player.
  11. Click "Media."
  12. Click "Open File."
  13. At this point, assuming that you have UAC enabled, you should receive a message indicating that the folder that it is attempting to access is inaccessible. It is attempting to browse to the Administrator account.

Location of Settings File

The following is the location of the file that causes this issue:

%AppData?%\vlc\vlc-qt-interface.ini

The line within the settings file that causes the issue is as follows: filedialog-path=

Why It Is An Issue

This is an issue in enterprises that use CopyProfile? to set default settings for all users. CopyProfile? is the official, Microsoft-supported method of copying the default profiles. In fact, it is the only method Microsoft supports for creating default profiles.

Potential Fixes

  1. An easy potential fix could be to simply refer to the %AppData?% variable rather than hard-coding the user's path.
  1. Another fix could be for the VLC media player program to detect if "C:\Users\Administrator" is contained within the filedialog-path setting and replace it with the %USERPROFILE% variable. This would work in almost all circumstances because (a) the Administrator account is used primarily for Sysprep, (b) Microsoft no longer supports the use of the built-in Administrator account for regular use, so users should not be using that account any way, and (c) it would not break anything even for users who insist on using the Administrator account for regular use.

Workaround

Until this is fixed, a workaround is to simply delete the path associated with the filedialog-path setting. This must be done right before the image is generalized using Sysprep. Even though this will technically work, it would be better to fix the issue long-term because many Administrators cannot check every single program that they load for these sorts of problems.

#12396 TS mux cuts large video frames short (not unbounded PES) new defect normal Stream output: Muxers
Description

I also reported this in the Forum, but got no response yet. Since there is no similar bug open I'll file one...

We use H264/AAC live streaming VLC->TS->RTP->Wowza and have troubles with defective frames. We did lots of debugging with wireshark and we are absolutely sure they are not cause by UDP packetloss.

We were even able to reproduce this locally on one machine transcoding with VLC 2.1.5, streaming it to some RTP port and playing it back with VLC 2.1.5 again.

Only to set a reference to some reports in the Wowza-Forum: Wowza complains with "RTPPacket.write: Bad packet: Incomplete NAL Units" in case VLC sent a defective frame.

With verbose=1 on x264 encoder we were able to see that every time x264 outputs a frame larger then ~64k (or PES_PAYLOAD_SIZE_MAX) the videoframe is damaged (cut short).

Looking into the code at modules/mux/mpeg/ts.h:MuxStreams() shows that

    i_max_pes_size = INT_MAX;

is only set for VLC_CODEC_DIRAC, but modules/mux/mpeg/pes.c:EStoPES(), which is called by MuxStreams?() mentions

     * EStoPES will only produce an unbounded PES packet if:
     *  - ES is VIDEO_ES
     *  - i_max_pes_size > PES_PAYLOAD_SIZE_MAX
     *  - length of p_es > PES_PAYLOAD_SIZE_MAX

Looking at the ITU papers it looks like VLC should send Videoframes >64k in MPEG-TS as unbounded RTP as well.

I added a check for VLC_CODEC_H264 like

should be added? I'm not sure about all the specs.

Reproducing this is quite simple. Take a fast machine (core i5-4670 on Fedora 20 here), download a high quality video, eg.: https://www.scene.org/file.php?file=%2Fparties%2F2009%2Fbreakpoint09%2Fin4k%2Felevated_8000.avi&fileinfo

and transcode it live with VLC using (using mp3 as audio works as well):

vlc -vvv -I dummy --sout-avcodec-strict=-2 elevated_8000.avi :sout="#transcode{venc=x264{keyint=25,profile=baseline,crf=15,verbose=1},width=1024,vcodec=h264,scale=1,acodec=mp4a,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100,audio-sync}:rtp{mux=ts,dst=127.0.0.1,port=20071}"

and replay it using VLC with

vlc rtp://@:20071

watch for the damaged picture. Most of the time the lower 1/2-1/3 is damaged. Every time you see this you will find Slice:I output from x264 with >64k frame size.

After building a VLC with the first patch the test shows no broken frame at all.

I tried this with same older VLC versions as well. Oldest I found was 1.1.4... same result.

But seeking with the keyboard commands still works perfectly. Have to restart the file or even VLC player again to restore frame bar to normal mode. This might happen on ANY video (seems only video) format opened locally or online streaming. This never happened on version 20140813 or earlier (tested)

#12439 2.1.4 Slow loading of DVDs new defect normal Unknown
Description

I support a private school with around 100 faculty and staff. Right now we are experiencing some issues when trying to play DVD's on our 2014 MacBook? Airs running OSX Mavericks.

We are using Samsung USB 2.0 DVD Writer Model SE-218CB/RSBS and VLC to Airplay to our projectors.

The issue we have is that it can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes for the DVD to load. Also, when skipping or trying to return to the menu it causes VLC to reload and typically takes 1-5 minutes to load that again.

The DVD runs fine on other media player apps such as Apple's DVD app (just not while using Airplay due to MPAA restrictions).

#12614 Bookmarks broken after video restart new defect normal Unknown
Description

Using version 2.2.0-rc1, if I set bookmarks while a video is playing, then stop and start the video, the bookmarks no longer work. Double-clicking a custom bookmark then results in "core input error: invalid bookmark X" to the terminal (where X is number of the bookmark clicked).

In previous versions, bookmarks could still be used after restarting the video (with this same video file).

Description

Hi. I do have 3 monitors. When I double click on player window it become fullscreen. But only if video aspect ratio is exact the same as current monitor than all other monitors become blink few times while fullscreen video switching. It really bad for my eyes. I confirm that if I set up video crop to other aspect ratio this blinkning is gone. How can I disable this blinking for native aspect ratio? If this is a bug than please fix it. Regards, July IGHOR

#12670 White border appears in full screen mode. new defect normal Unknown
Description

After a recent update (sometime in the last few months), when in full screen mode, a white border (top and bottom) appears when focus is changed to another window or when next file in the play list opens. Exiting and re-entering full screen mode removes the border. This is a minor inconvenience but earlier versions never had this problem. I am running Ubuntu 14.04 with GNOME desktop. Everything is fully up to date. I have a feeling that it is more likely to be something that has happened in the desktop manager code rather than VLC but I thought I would check with you first. Thanks for your time and keep up the great work.

For example, if you add a m3u file (with only one included path) to the playlist, libvlc_media_list_index_of_item() (/common/vlc-player.cpp:127) returns first the correct index, but then -1, and playlist-methods like next() and prev() will not work correctly. If you add a normal path to the playlist, it works fine.

#12813 VLC 2.1.5/ Blackmagic Decklink 10.3 - Release output video issue new defect normal Video: misc. plugins
Description

Hello everyone,

I need for a future use to activate the SDI Output from VLC to a Blackmagic Decklink Duo. I compiled VLC 2.1.5 with --with-decklink-sdk=/path/to/SDK and with:

  • ffmpeg 2.1.4
  • libav 9
  • Decklink SDK 10.3

I work on Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 LTS, Blackmagic drivers installed are in 10.3 version.

Everything seems to work fine except the stop button from the VLC UI. The first play is OK but if I press the stop button the video output is not released and it's impossible to load antoher video to the output without stop and restart VLC. May I have missed something or this is a bug ?

See attached debug logs from VLC. The stop button freezes the video and show "qt4 debug: IM: Deleting the input" in the message box. After that, the SDI out put is locked with an error "decklinkoutput error: Could not enable video output: 0x80000009"

The behaviour is the same with another version of VLC or Decklink SDK.

Thanks a lot for your help.

#12827 HLS unreliable (glitches, going black) new defect normal Unknown
Description

When I try to direct vlc to the url http://tagesschau-lh.akamaihd.net/i/tagesschau_1@119231/master.m3u8 , the connection is very unreliable. I have experienced not just gliches, but also sometimes I lost audio (which continued for multiple minutes), or video (black screen or (broken, not the HLS fallback) freezed image instead), or both. When I restart the stream it can either happen again, or work perfectly.

I've noticed lots of messages of this kind:

#12862 sout-all reorders the tracks when streaming new defect highest Stream output: Muxers
Description

Hi,

When streaming to the local network. when using the sou-all switch, vlc randomly reorders the tracks contained in the original media file. This is the file:

Duration: 00:21:57.72, start: 0.042667, bitrate: 4056 kb/s

Stream #0:0(und): Video: h264 (High) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p, 720x576 [SAR 64:45 DAR 16:9], 3663 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 12800 tbn, 50 tbc Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: aac (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 192 kb/s Stream #0:2(eng): Audio: ac3 (ac-3 / 0x332D6361), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 192 kb/s

and here is how VLC streams it to the network:

Stream #0:0[0x521](eng): Audio: aac ([15][0][0][0] / 0x000F), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 205 kb/s

Stream #0:1[0x51f](???): Video: h264 (High) ([27][0][0][0] / 0x001B), yuv420p, 720x576 [SAR 64:45 DAR 16:9], 25 fps, 25 tbr, 90k tbn, 50 tbc Stream #0:2[0x523](eng): Audio: ac3 (AC-3 / 0x332D4341), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 192 kb/s

this causes issues with stbs and other instances receiving the multicast streams.

The behavior is totally random...I have observed this with other media files as well where multiple audio tracks are included and it randomaly switches the order of the language tracks...I would expect vlc to stream the media in the exact same order as contained in the media file.

Thanks!!!

#12922 Audio volume of .mod-type file formats is too low new defect normal Unknown
Description

I have a large audio-only playlist containing both .mod-type files (.xm and other tracker formats) and .ogg-type files (also .mp3, etc.). I use a 3rd-party Lua script to shuffle this playlist.

The .mods are played back at noticeably lower volume than the .oggs are. This results in having to adjust the master volume every time VLC finishes a .mod and starts an .ogg, or vice versa. Some .mods also seem to be played back at different volume than others.

The VLC "volume normalizer" audio filter doesn't seem to help with this.

The volume discrepancies appears to be an issue with libmodplug, as documented on: http://dumb.sourceforge.net/?page=docs&doc=modplug

Given the problems with libmodplug mentioned on that page, I would be interested in support in VLC for a different .mod-playing library, maybe libdumb. I don't know any of the potential problems with adding this support, except that, of course, it would take time to develop & test. This "support" might be seen by the user as a drop-down option box in Tools > Preferences that allows choice of a .mod-playing library from a fixed list; only libmodplug & (libdumb or lib_some_other_mod_player).

VLC 2.1.5, compiled locally on Ubuntu. Libmodplug Ubuntu package version is 1:0.8.8.4-3

#12970 VLC does not display vobsub subtitle tracks beyond the first reopened defect normal Subtitles
Description

When I export subtitle from a dvd using mencoder as such:

mencoder dvd://1 -nosound -ovc frameno -o /dev/null -slang en -vobsubout Output

If the movie has multiple subtitles I want to keep, I re-run this with different language or -sid (instead of -slang) options. Mencoder will concatenate each pass into the same Output idx/sub pair, so the file winds up with multiple subtitle tracks. I'll paste an example of the idx file below, where both tracks are english, the first track is visual translations only (e.g. signs shown in the video), and the second track has the full dialog.

When VLC opens the Output.mp4 video file, it finds the sub/idx pair and does show two subtitle tracks available in the subtitle menu, but when I select the second one I don't get any subtitles at all. When I choose the first one, I get subtitles from the second track.

#13045 New Playlist issue and other issues new defect high Unknown
Description

Bugs regarding the music section 1.Vlc cannot access album cover. 2.Music section does not show DRM protected music albums which were

downloaded through MixRadio?.

3.When you click on an album and swipe right to see the playlist

options, you cannot add a song to playlist and create a playlist from the options available it transitions back to where it displays the artist name, a option to fav a song and play all the songs in the album.

  1. You can only add a song or a album to a playlist when you click on a song from a album and swipe right to see all the songs in the album and click on the three dot option besides a song and a new window appears from where you can add the "whole album" to the playlist rather than one song OR
  2. You can add a song to a playlist through the three dot menu option available besides the song displayed but it seems like when you add it to one playlist and then the other you can also add the song or album to the first and then the second and then the first again infinite number of times, ideally it should be only one time per playlist
  3. Add to playlist option adds the whole album to the playlist rather than one song.
  4. When you play a song a small window opens at the bottom of the screen displaying the now playing song and the option to play a song (along with the media player above), when you pause the song and press the back button the window or the small player sort of under laps the main three dot menu of the vlc player(special thanks and settings one).
  5. When you play and then pause a song and go back to the album display the album cover and the options available besides it compresses into showing only the artist name and the album cover when you try to expand it it does not expand.

10.The music player in the sidebar overlaps the navigation options

available hiding some of the options.

11.The sorting of the music albums by date and ascending descending

is not working. Sorting by the artist name both asc and desc is fine.

#13059 VLC should not display RLM and LRM in subtitle files new defect normal Subtitles

Many SRT files may contain right-to-left marks (U+200F) or left-to-right marks (U+200E) if it contains bi-directional text. Instead, VLC should display nothing at all for these characters, not even an empty space. They are essentially control characters.

#13063 x264 decode incorrect in 1 specific animation only new defect normal Unknown
Description

I have 1 animation that has been encoded with x264 (handbrake) and plays back correctly with Quicktime & Windows Media Player.

I realise it SHOULD decode perfectly with VLC, given its integration of x264 decoder, but it doesn't.

Please see the attached video files.

No matter what settings are chosen with encode (even CQ 0) it always decodes incorrectly in VLC.

I'm trying to stream IPv6 multicast content using VLC using the following parameters: vlc -vvv --ipv6 rtp://[2001:db8::2]@[ff3e::1]:1900

#13104 Record Button does not work if destination is network folder new defect normal Unknown
Description

Never posted a bug before, so please bear with me. Jean-Baptiste Kempf, the forum admin, asked that I post this bug here.

I documented this issue in the forum: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=123089

Below is the text of the above link - so it doesn't get lost:

Here is a tip/pointer for others having "Record Button" functionality problems. I changed my ip-address to 192.168.x.x in the following - not that it matters because it's unroutable anyway.

Win7-Pro 64-bit, VLC 2.1.5 Rincewind. I just downloaded and ran this today. It is displaying my IP-camera RTSP stream output - and it looks wonderful! Thanks VLC!

I configured it to store Snapshots on my Synology DiskStation? - it works fine.

I also configured it to store Recordings on the DiskStation? - it does not work. I found that it does not properly handle the path of
DISKSTATION\Cyclops\VLC\Recordings. See the following Messages output:

stream_out_record debug: using muxer mkv with extension mkv (2/2 streams accepted) stream_out_record debug: Using record output `std{access=file{no-append,no-format},mux='mkv',dst='

(name=(null)) main debug: destroying chain done stream_out_record error: failed to open output

Note above, the leading \ is missing from the network-path in some of the variable-values. However, if I map it to a disk-drive, it works fine:

stream_out_record debug: Using record output `std{access=file{no-append,no-format},mux='mkv',dst='Z:

So the network-path works fine for Snapshots, but not for Recordings. Having to map the drive to gain the "Record" functionality is bothersome in my, and many other environments.

#13179 Closing the video output windows by clicking on close button not working new defect normal Video: DirectX / glwin32
Description

This one is tested on several Windows 7 and 8 installations on several PC setups.

I usually use the non integrated video in the interface, VLC (xxx output). When using this, only the mini- and maximize Buttons in the video window are working. Clicking on X button to close just the video (not VLC at all) does not work. So the only possibility to close the video window is by clicking on stop in the interface window.

This definitely worked fine up to version 2.0.8, definitely not working since 2.1.x up to 3.0 nightly.

#13210 Snapshot default folder is Yuck new defect normal Unknown
Description

The snapshots should not send PNG file to some obscure directory mandated by Windows. The snapshop should default to the location of the video being shown, if that is a writable directory. A preference should determine if this is a good idea.

  1. User finds video on D:\Foo\Man\Chu
  2. User double clicks video to run it
  3. User clicks Snapshot... thinks that is great
  4. User can't find his Snapshot in the directory/folder that the video was located.
  5. User clicks Snapshot again... thinks this is stupid
  6. User still can't find his Snapshot.
  7. User gives up.
  8. User may someday find them in Homegroup\User\COMPNAME\Pictures or some other place, all of which depends on the version of Windows. User finds 10 old snapshots... thinks this is great but stupid
  9. The Wiki says My Documents\My Pictures\ ... which is not exactly the correct place, especially for newer Windows versions.

The situation on MacOS seems to be just as odd. Why the Desktop there? What about the picture library?

https://wiki.videolan.org/Take_a_snapshot/

Let's go with at least some notice to the User where to find his Snapshot irregardless of where it is located. A dialog box that just says "OK" and a link to the file would be great if the video was paused. Clicking said link will open Snapshot in the media viewer for PNG files.

"Snapshot saved to C:\User\My Videos\Original_Video_Name_xxx.png" "OK"

#13301 javascript: autocomplete/'for x in vlc' does not work new defect normal Web plugin: Mozilla
Description

If you want to return all available items in the vlc object, you will get an error in firefox: Error: Error enumerating properties on scriptable plugin object

I have tried it with this javascript method:

for(item in vlc){

}

The same problem appears in the developer console in firefox, if you want to use the autocomplete function.

In ActiveX are similar problems, it works on the main item, but not on the subitems, like vlc.audio (without error messages).

I hope you understand what I mean.

#13333 Set video as wallpaper on dual monitors is centred between the two monitors new defect normal Video: DirectX / glwin32
Description

Windows 8.1 i5, intel 3000HD graphics When setting any video as wallpaper on a dual monitor setup the video is shown with half of it on one monitor and the other half on the other monitor. The video is at correct aspect ratio and zoomed to fit height. Either an option to stretch the video width-ways to fit both monitors OR to display the video as wallpaper on one monitor or the other would solve this issue.

#13341 No sound when moving back from 8x to slower speed new defect normal Unknown
Description

Hi,

When I change the speed to 8x, the sound is disabled. I don't have any problems with that. The problem is that the sound doesn't come back when I slow down. The sound comes back only when I click on the time frame.

I use VLC 2.1.5 on Arch Linux. No message is displayed on the terminal when I move back to 4x. I am sure it was working a few months ago but I was using Ubuntu. It works well on Windows.

Thank you

Issue: Only noticed it with tscc codec. When saving a png format video-snapshot the red and blue color channels are reversed (as verified by switching them back in after effects). #13480 Video cache and audio new defect low Input: network streams
Description

Bonjour,

Outil -> Préférence -> "Tous" -> Lecture / Codec -> Cache fichier (ms) De base 300ms --> Modifié à 5000ms

Note: Le bogue peut être assez aléatoire...

Voilà.

Hello,

I have found a problem with the buffer file system to VLC.

Context and hardware: I look movie(720p) on a NFS share in a VPN. Server NFS: Online - Dedibox XC Very fast connection (1Gb/s) OS client Linux - Mageia 4 x64 - VLC 2.1.5

With this configuration, the files are considered like a locals files and not a network files. The default buffer size is 300ms, i have change this parameter to 5000ms.

Tools -> Preference -> "all" -> Lecture / Codec -> Files caching (ms)

300ms --> 5000ms

Example problem: When i go to 10m:00s, the sound is not present. I must go to back, for correct this problem. Open movie file(caching start) -> Go to 10m:00s (caching start & problem: no sound) -> wait to 10m:05s -> Back to 10m:00s (No caching) -> Sound ok.

Note: The bug can be pretty random ...

#13498 closed captions subtitles not hiding in time new defect normal Subtitles
Description

I am in Western Australia When replaying recorded TV programs using VLC (2.1.5)the subtitles (closed captions) do not replay correctly as they did when viewing the original program on TV. The subtitles will not disappear from the screen till another line of dialogue is spoken (can sometimes be minutes of time) Also if two characters are speaking one after another then the first line spoken by first character will stay till first character speaks again. I am using windows XP on both my laptop and my PC and the same thing is happening on both machines I can record programs on both my TV (AWA LCD) and my set top box (TEAC HDB 850) The subtitles from recorded programs from my set top box replay perfectly when replayed through the set top box but are faulty as above when replayed on VLC. Here in Australia we have a lot of free view channels and the problem does not happen with recorded programs from all of these channels (some replay subtitles OK in VLC)but even then mostly the subtitles still do not disappear till next dialogue is spoken The sample I can send is from channel ABC2 I realy hope you can help with this problem as I was very happy when I set up my laptop to play VLC on my TV and everything was fantastic till I discovered this problem Thanks Rob

Description

As per subject, I have a flv file that indicates the presence of an audio track in the header, but there is no actual data in it and eeking through the file causes ~10s pauses.

#13535 main error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called (von HDD, DVD-Medium funktioniert) new defect high Unknown
Description

While VLC has the capability playing Videos in its original File-Format as it comes from DVD-Media (the /VIDEO_TS-Direcotry) - and keeps this capability if this Directory went to HDD or a NAS, I used this for copying any of my DVDs to NAS for easy viewing and not to need to reencode (and loosing the DVD-Capabilities as Menu etc.)

Up to now I copied around 60 Discs. In order to come up with CSS I use VLC to 'open' the Disc - and while the beginning of the real movie is displayed, I pause the playback und run ISO-Buster to copy the File-Contents. I do so, because on the one side I saw Copied content, which was scrambeled, when I didn't 'open' the Disc by VLC; and the other side: some Discs are explicitly defect my deliver, so Copying by Explorer will just fail.

One Disc [Idiocracy (4 010232 039408)] can be played only with VLC from DVD. If I will copy the Disc in the same way as the other 60 Discs, playing fails (see attached log).

I'm using VLC 2.1.5 Rincewind 64Bit on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit (with 8 GB RAM).

I hope you can understand my english.

---

#13607 Clone filter not allowing fullscreen and video disappears from main window new defect normal Video: filters
Description

Hi, So I wanted to play a video and clone it on all 3 of my monitors so I used the clone filter in VLC to create 2 clones. But upon creating 2 clones the video in the main window disappears and is replaced by the VLC logo. I could create 3 clones but it would be quite difficult to control as the video controls are on the main window..

Also it is impossible to get the cloned videos to enter fullscreen which is quite annoying. I've attached a screenshot to this post.

Bugs:

  • Clone filter makes video disappear on main window.
  • Cloned video filter windows are impossible to make fullscreen.

#13628 Bug in decoding teletext new defect normal Decoders
Description

Hi, there is a persisting bug in decoding closed captions. According to EUROPEAN TELECOMMUNICATION STANDARD ETS 300 706 the subtitle line should start with bytes 0b 0b and ends with at least ONE 0a - everything not inside these boxes should not be displayed. The VLC decoder however requires two 0a endings and is always showing all chars even outside the boxes.

#13716 unencrypted, region-free DVD fails to play, works from hard disk new defect normal Unknown
Description

I am having trouble with this DVD:

http://www.homespuntapes.com/Instructors/john-doyle/irish-rhythm-guitar

I get as far as the DVD menu, but when I select a chapter, video just stops. All the individual .VOB files can be played, so I suspected an issue with the .IFO. However, after a cp -a to my hard disk, VLC plays the DVD folder from the hard disk just fine with navigation and all.

I have tried with VLC on Arch Linux, Debian GNU/Linux unstable, Windows 7 Pro. It is the same on all platforms. At the same time, the DVD does play in Windows Media Player.

I have also tried the "no DVD menu" option on the DVD medium, in which case I see the following error: [00007f57b8000e78] dvdread demux error: i_pack_len >= 1024 (268542972). This shouldn't happen!

Also other free media players fail, including Totem and MPlayer.

I haven't seen a lot of console output from VLC. Please advise how to generate the output necessary for further investigating this.

#13757 Dialogs for "about", "Preferences" and some more should not have a minimize button new patch normal Interface: Qt
Description

Currently, Qt::WindowMinMaxButtonsHint? is used. Result:

But I think, Qt::WindowMaximizeButtonHint? should be a better solution, because a minimize button could confuse some users. (Example: "Why I can't use the main interface? All is disabled!" Solution: A minimized dialog is still open)

Result of Qt::WindowMaximizeButtonHint?:

#13789 VLC crashes in Virtualbox VMs with Direct3D9 new defect normal Video: filters
Description

It crashes on Vista/7/10Pre, if Direct3D9 is using. DirectDraw? works.

Works fine on WinXP and Win8.0.

I have installed the Virtualbox WDDM driver (NOT the standard driver or the d3d driver, which you can select on guest additions installation.)

Works fine with VLC 2.1.5.

Using 2.2.0-rc2 64-bit, when I play a Youtube video (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAsjRRMMg_Q) and hit the record button no file is recorded. #13816 RFE: clone video filter support for embedding video new enhancement normal Video: filters
Description

Currently using the clone filter requires that the cloned video windows not be of the embedded type (i.e. Integrate video in interface). It would be nice if clone could support the first clone being embedded and generate only subsequent clones in separate windows.

My particular use case is being able to use the clone filter between direct3d and decklink, where having the separate video window is slightly more cluttered.

Emulating the old graphics card theatre mode could also be done if embedded clone was supported, and fullscreen support was added for individual clone children.

I am on Windows, but this would apply to the Qt interface.

#13819 VLC creates strange files in recycle folder of network share when playing files from NAS-Server new defect normal Core
Description

Hello, I'm using VLC 2.2.0 RC2 x64 on my Windows 7 x64-PC. When I'm playing some files in VLC from my NAS Server (Synology) with Samba (for example FLV or MP4 files), VLC creates strange files with size of 1 KB in the network recycle bin of the NAS Server.

#13827 Add showOSD variable to take-snapshot to set OSD feedback on or off. new patch normal Core: Video output
Description

For LinuxMCE, we periodically take snapshots of the playing video (or ask the currently playing video player to), for things like displaying DVD menus on Orbiter displays.

This patch adds the ability to set the OSD feedback of the take-snapshot feature on or off, and exposes it to libVLC appropriately.

#13830 inappropriate use of preprocessor conditionals in headerfile used by moc-qt4 new patch normal Interface: Qt
Description

Qt4's moc compiler does not look at preprocessor conditionals to include or exclude conditional code. Instead, it generates code that references all member functions, whether they're defined in the accompanying .cpp file or not. Platform specific slots or signals must thus be defined in separate header files.

Indeed, building the Qt4 plugin on OS X (where the searchlineedit widget attempts to use the NSSearchField class) leads to linker errors:

Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64:

"SearchLineEdit::SearchLineEdit?(QWidget*)", referenced from:

PrefsDialog::setAdvanced() in libqt4_plugin_la-preferences.o PluginTab::PluginTab?(intf_thread_t*) in libqt4_plugin_la-plugins.o AddonsTab::AddonsTab?(intf_thread_t*) in libqt4_plugin_la-plugins.o KeySelectorControl::KeySelectorControl?(vlc_object_t*, module_config_t*, QWidget*) in libqt4_plugin_la-preferences_widgets.o PlaylistWidget::PlaylistWidget?(intf_thread_t*, QWidget*) in libqt4_plugin_la-playlist.o

ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture x86_64 clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation) Makefile:2012: recipe for target 'libqt4_plugin.la' failed

I'm attaching a very crude patch that comments out the platform-specific (experimental?) code.

#13836 [OS X]: adaptations for VLC built the MacPorts way new enhancement normal Core
Description

MacPorts? has ports for VLC (2.1.5) and VLC-devel (currently 2.2.0 rc2) which install the components of interest to other ports in Linux/Posix? style under its install prefix (typically /opt/local), and alter the VLC.app app bundle such that these components are found through symlinks to the directories in which they are installed:

VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/lib -> ${prefix}/lib VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/plugins -> ${prefix}/lib/plugins

VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share and /opt/local/share/vlc have slightly different contents so I have left them as is for now.

VLC 2.1.5 had issues with this scheme for instance when calling the non app-bundle executable ${prefix}/bin/vlc, or when loading libvlc in any 3rd party application like phonon-backend-vlc . The plugins weren't found. This has been remedied to a large extent by Rémy Denis-Courmont in darwin/dirs.c ; attached are the remaining changes I have found necessary. Though perfectly transparent, I'm not expecting these changes to be incorporated. It would be useful though, and I would be very much interested in constructive feedback how to improve them (or the MacPorts? install scheme).

Note that these don't make ${prefix}/bin/vlc functional beyond finding its plugins, at least not with the standard OS X interface module (DBus control appears to work, though). Also note that the executable built this way has an issue initialising OpenGL, which is *not* due to the attached patches.

#13859 Heavy pixelation when transcoding TS with subtitles new defect normal Stream output: Muxers
Description

The transcoded file of some DVB-TS sources has heavy pixelation at some points. This only happends if the source has a subtitle PID as part of it's ES. I don't get the pixelation when using --no-spu when transcoding.

This is the simple command I use for transcoding:

vlc /tmp/sample1.mts --sout "#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=640,scale=1,fps=25}:standard{access=file,mux=ts,dst="/tmp/out1.mts"}" --no-spu -vvv

Tested with Ubuntu v2.1.5 and latest GIT with same results.

I'm trying to record a short dump to upload a sample here so you can reproduce the problem.

Please, let me know if you need more information. Thanks in advance.
