"Missing latency from input" error since upgrade to Pulseaudio 2.0.1 on Arch Linux
Since Arch Linux upgraded its PulseAudio package to version 2.0.1, a defect has occurred between the VLC PulseAudio module and the PulseAudio package. A "missing latency from input" error will occur where sound will stall for two seconds before playing at a higher sample rate than the expected 44100KHz. The module will then lower the sample rate for a minute or so until it hits the correct sample rate of 44100KHz. The physical effect of this bug is to make the music start at a higher pitch before steadily lowering itself down to the correct pitch when the sample rate hits the correct value. This bug always occurs whenever a new file is played through the PulseAudio module and does not occur on either the ALSA module or through any other media player which uses PulseAudio on my laptop.
Both VLC 2.0.1 stable package and VLC git 20120520 build show the error. I am using Arch Linux with kernel 3.3.6-1-ARCH and PulseAudio package version 2.0.1. My laptop has the Intel 6 series/C200 series chipset family high definition audio controller and the bug occurs with both the analog and IEC958 S/PDIF outputs.
Attached is the console output for the bug in question.
