Change of sample rate causes flv files to become silent
My bug report to Bambuser:
Audio on http://bambuser.com/channel/pigsonthewing/broadcast/2140298> is fine, but on the downloaded version, breaks up (in VLC) after about two minutes, and is unlistenable for the remainder.
I've downloaded it twice, and the same thing happened each time; on downloads of other files recoded on the same day it's fine.
Bambuser's reply:
It's the same file that is loaded in the Flash player and made available for download.
We downloaded the file (253MB) and tried playing it both with VLC and FFmpeg, and encountered issues with the audio after 2 minutes as you say. The audio is obviously there and is playable by Flash.
This probably happens because of a changed audio sample rate around the two minute mark. Do you remember changing the audio settings around then? I made a short broadcast myself where I started using 44kHz audio and then lowered it to 22kHz and then to 11kHz. My broadcast plays back fine in Flash, but becomes silent in VLC the moment the audio quality is changed.
Apparently some players have issues when the audio sample rate is changed in the middle of a file. There's unfortunately nothing we can do right now about that, but you could try with various video players and conversion programs if they support files with changing audio.
We will see what we can do to possibly make this work better in the future.
