VLC does not play DVD correctly when opened with GNOME
VLC 0.9.2 is included in ubuntu intrepid and it is now associated to DVD/VCD/SVCD/Audio CD medias. However, these is a problem :
If you try to open a DVD-video with VLC, VLC will plays all .vob files in a playlist, but it won't play the DVD menu as it should, making DVD playback partially unusable.
In vlc.desktop, VLC is launched with this argument "%U" so when you open a DVD with GNOME, VLC is started with : "vlc file:///media/cdrom0" . In these conditions, VLC assumes that /media/cdrom0 is a file and it plays all files inside that folder in a playlist, which is wrong for a DVD.
A potential solution that we already use in ubuntu is to change "%U" to "%f" in the .desktop file. The result is that VLC is started with "/media/cdrom0" instead of "file:///media/cdrom0". In these circumstances, VLC plays DVD correctly as much as Audio CDs and individual media files, so that sounds like a good solution.
