VLC 0.9.0 Running Video too fast and no sound
Okay, I finally figured out why under windows 2000 sp4 VLC is not working. I was getting dropped frames and the error message was saying CPU too slow. Well that was amazing because I am using a AMD64 X2 4200+ and while playing under task manager I was not even seeing a bump upward in my CPU utilization.
So, I decided to play around with the player options. I discovered I could get the video to start showing my mov movie by un-checking the drop late frames option under general video settings advanced options. Then the video ran but I saw three issues:
- The video ran at least 2x faster than normal
- The slider literally zoomed over to the right before the video started playing.
- No sound output at all but perhaps due to super fast playing of video
So, I decided how can I would try slowing down vlc by going to the advanced setting and tell vlc to minimize threads. That fixed the one issue:
- The slider stopped zooming to the right and actually moved at a rate that matched the movie rate which had also slowed down.
Okay now really determined to slow things down a bit I: unchecked all the CPU options but it did not slow my PC down enough.
I have a friend running under XP using a P4 3.4Ghz and he is having the same issues with 0.9.0. He was able to verify that he was able to see the video by doing what I mentioned above. If he uses 0.8.6a the video can be played correctly. This is an issue only with 0.9.0 running of fast PC's.
