The JVLC project aim is to give to developers a powerful, flexible and easy to use Java multimedia library. JVLC is built around the VideoLAN multimedia player, so it is able to:

  • read almost any multimedia file in a fast and memory efficient way
  • transcode multimedia files
  • easily stream over the internet

JVLC comes into 2 flavours:

  • source code format: with VideoLAN source files
  • binary jar library (for Windows and GNU/Linux)

Projects using jvlc

I'm glad to list here the projects I know about which use JVLC for their purposes:

  • mvk17: A software to design and run psychopysical tests. Researchers on departments like www.speech.kth.se wants this to find out how test persons feels or behaves to diffrent stimulis. The stimulis can be music, pictures or movies, and collected responses could be mouse movements, networked device or simple questions.
  • VLC4OSGi: VLC4OSGI is an OSGi application that provides a service for playing multimedia files.
  • moobu: Moobu is an open source player with a very attractive opengl UI.
  • MyUniPortal: Portal that uses JVLC for playing multimedia files.
